As more venues open and increasing numbers of people
choose to socialise in the same area,
the number of alcohol related crimes are also showing signs of increase.
In the main pubbing and clubbing areas of South Belfast - alcohol
related crime accounts for almost 20%
of all recorded crime and it reaches a peak during the Autumn
months. Crime also increases around closing time
particularly between 11.00pm and 3.00am as people start to make their
way home.
Home Office statistics show that alcohol plays a significant role in crime
levels,
